PRESS RELEASE:

The “To My Children” crowdfunding campaign - an artists visual fight against extremism

Kulturbyrået Mesén has now launched a crowdfunding campaign to finance the making of the animated film “To My Children”. Artist Shwan Dler Qaradaki describes the project as his “visual fight against extremism”. He has created the ink drawings and watercolours for the film, as well as a manuscript describing events from his life. The script will be used for a voice over, making “To My Children” into an audio-visual work, structured as a letter to his children and unborn grandchildren. It tells them Qaradaki´s story of escaping war, living as a refugee and starting a new life and family in Norway.

As a former refugee and a first hand witness to the atrocities of war, Qaradaki creates striking images of hardship and endurance. He presents recognizable subjects in a way that is markedly different from the outside observation through the lens of the news media, and the sincerity and power of his images make them hard to forget.

Harsh realities are portrayed in a personal and poetic way, making his art a catalyst for discussion of the complex humanitarian and political questions that we are faced with today. Rather than simply being confronted with these issues, we are invited into a crucial dialogue about current world conflicts.
